The short version: collect rocks, not personal data

Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 6, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how SVO Technologies LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information in connection with the StoneScout mobile application (the “App”) and https://stonescout.app (the “Website”), together the “Service.”

Information the App handles

Identification photos and traits

When you ask the App to identify a specimen, it compresses and uploads the selected photo to our Cloudflare-hosted identification service. Any physical traits you choose to add—such as hardness, streak, magnetism, luster, transparency, or crystal form—are sent with that request. Our current AI processor, Anthropic, processes the photo and traits to return candidate matches. We do not use identification photos for advertising.

We do not intentionally store the uploaded image in our application database. Service providers may process and retain request data under their applicable terms, contracts, and technical settings. Do not submit confidential images or photographs that unnecessarily include faces, documents, addresses, or other personal information.

Your collection and scan history

Saved specimens, photos, notes, scan history, wishlist items, preferences, and generated field cards are stored on your device. The App does not require an account. You are responsible for device backups; we cannot restore local data we do not possess.

Optional location

If you grant location permission and enable find-location tagging, the App can attach coordinates and a place name to a saved specimen. Location capture is optional and can be disabled in the App. Location and place-name services are provided through Apple platform services, and the resulting find information is stored with your local collection.

Purchases and notifications

Apple processes App Store purchases and payment details. We use RevenueCat to validate purchase receipts and manage subscription entitlements. RevenueCat receives purchase and device/app information needed to provide that service, but not your collection photos. If you opt into a trial-ending reminder, the App requests notification permission and schedules a local reminder on your device.

Information the Website handles

The Website is hosted on Cloudflare. When you submit the contact form, Formspark processes the name, email address, topic, and message you provide so we can receive it and respond or, if you ask for launch updates, send those updates. Cloudflare Turnstile may process browser and device signals to protect the form from abuse. We do not sell contact details or use them for third-party advertising.

Sharing and service providers

We share information only as needed to operate the Service, comply with law, protect rights and safety, or complete a business transfer. Current operational providers include Cloudflare (hosting and abuse prevention), Formspark (contact-form processing and delivery), Anthropic (AI-assisted identification), Apple (platform, location, notifications, and payments), and RevenueCat (purchase entitlement management).

Retention and your choices

Contact messages are retained only as long as reasonably needed to respond, maintain business records, or satisfy legal obligations. Local App data remains until you edit it, delete it, or remove the App and its data. You can decline camera, photo-library, location, and notification permissions in iOS settings; some related features will then be unavailable.

Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13. A parent or guardian should supervise a child’s use, particularly any photo or location submission. Contact Use our contact form if you believe a child has provided personal information without appropriate consent.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the Service changes. We will revise the date above when we do. Submit questions or privacy requests through ourcontact form.
