Terms of Use

Last updated: August 6, 2026

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and SVO Technologies LLC(“we,” “us,” or “our”) governing your use of the StoneScout mobile application (the “App”) and https://stonescout.app (the “Website”), together the “Service.” By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use it.

Educational tool, not a definitive identification

StoneScout uses photographs, optional user-entered traits, reference data, and artificial intelligence to suggest possible specimen matches. Many materials cannot be reliably distinguished from a photograph. Results may be incomplete, inaccurate, or confidently wrong. Confidence scores describe the App’s candidate ranking; they are not laboratory probabilities or guarantees.

The Service is not a substitute for a qualified geologist, gemologist, laboratory, appraiser, conservator, medical professional, or hazardous-material specialist. Value ranges and authenticity clues are general context, not a valuation, certification, or promise that an item is genuine.

Safety

  • Unknown specimens can be hazardous. Do not taste, lick, heat, burn, grind, dissolve, inhale dust from, or deliberately break a specimen to identify it.
  • Use protective judgment. Some minerals may contain asbestos, lead, arsenic, mercury, radioactive material, or other hazards. Keep uncertain specimens away from children, pets, food areas, and skin contact until an expert evaluates them.
  • Field conditions carry risk. Watch weather, water, cliffs, traffic, wildlife, unstable ground, tools, and changing conditions. You are responsible for deciding what is safe.

Collect lawfully and responsibly

You are responsible for confirming ownership, permission, permits, limits, and local rules before collecting. Do not trespass, damage protected sites, remove cultural or archaeological materials, disturb wildlife, or collect where prohibited. Location information in the Service does not grant access or permission.

Your content and local data

You retain ownership of photographs, notes, and other material you submit. You grant us and our service providers a limited license to process submitted content only as needed to operate, secure, and improve the requested Service. You represent that you have the right to submit that content and that it does not violate law or another person’s rights.

Most collection data is stored on your device. You are responsible for backups. If your device and backups are lost, we may have no copy to recover. See ourPrivacy Policy for details.

Subscriptions and purchases

Some features may require a subscription. Available plans, prices, trial terms, and renewal periods are shown in the App and the App Store purchase sheet and may vary by region. Payment is charged through your Apple account. Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel in your App Store subscription settings. Apple handles refunds under its policies. You can use Restore Purchases for eligible prior purchases.

Acceptable use

We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service as permitted by these Terms and applicable App Store terms. You may not abuse the identification service, bypass limits or security, interfere with other users, upload unlawful content, use automated access without permission, or copy, redistribute, or reverse engineer the Service except where law expressly permits.

Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that results are accurate, that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that it is suitable for a particular collecting, safety, commercial, or legal decision.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, SVO Technologies LLC and its providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, property, or opportunity arising from the Service, specimen handling, field activity, purchase decisions, or reliance on a result. Our total liability for all claims will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so portions of this section may not apply to you.

Changes, termination, and governing law

We may update the Service or these Terms, suspend access to protect the Service, or discontinue features. Material revisions will be reflected by the date above. These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in whichSVO Technologies LLC is organized, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
